I am currently a senior in High School and will be beginning my studies in theater arts in college next fall. My small school never offered classes in theater or drama, so I don't know what to expect when I go to my first class. I met last week with my future professor and they suggested that I get acquainted with some theater actors in the community. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for me? I could really use all the help I can get!!
Well, if you're going to school for theater, you'll already meet plenty of fellow actors or others in your situation. I suggest donating some time to one of the many local professional theaters in town. They're always looking for ushers and box office help. You can check the classifieds at the Minnesota playlist website (www.mnplaylist.com) and usually find help wanted ads. You could even intern doing some tech stuff at theaters. I think it would be a great way to network with local professional actors and others in the industry. You'll also get an in depth look at how a professional theater is run. Plus, you'll get to see free shows! Hope this helps.
